We were very happy to hear the news of Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) being available to purchase at 1200 newsagents all over Australia in March last year. Bringing the most popular cryptocurrencies right in front of such a huge audience is the way to go as far as adoption goes.
We were missing such initiative in Europe, but it seems that maybe the time has finally come for things to really start moving here too. At least in France anyway.
As reported by Reuters, several tobacco shops in Paris, France, are now selling Bitcoin. Right now you can buy Bitcoin in six Tabacs shops around Paris, but this number is expected to rise to an incredible 6500 by February 2019.
Keplerk, a French fintech group is backing the project.
“Some people find it complicated to get bitcoins on-line,” said Adil Zakhar, one of Keplerk’s co-founders and added, “They trust their local tobacco shop owner more than they would trust some remote anonymous website.”.
Due to dropping tobacco sales in France the tobacco shops had to expand their offer to include prepaid credit cards, mobile phone top-ups and various money transfer services. It’s great to hear that Bitcoin will now be offered alongside such popular and recognisable products.
