Co-Founder of Google Mines Ethereum

A surprise was in store for those attending the Blockchain Summit in Morocco last Sunday, 8th July. Sergey Brin, a co-founder of Google, announced that he is mining Ethereum (ETH).

Brin expressed that a part of Google’s success was to take emerging technologies seriously. In his opinion, this is similar to what the creators and developers involved with cryptocurrencies are doing as well.

Like father, like son

Brin mines ETH together with his son. Apparently, he first became interested in the blockchain technology when his son asked him to get a gaming PC.

“A year or two ago, my son insisted that we needed to get a gaming PC,” – Brin explained. “I told him, ‘Okay, if we get a gaming PC, we have to mine cryptocurrency. So we set up an ethereum miner on there, and we’ve made a few pennies, a few dollars since.”

Brin expressed that Google is lagging behind in regard to blockchain technology and it “already failed to be on the bleeding edge,”.

Google banned cryptocurrency-related advertising from June 1st. A move, which was criticised globally.

Do you think that Google will eventually lift the crypto-advertising ban? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
