The crypto-sphere is full of predictions. Some predict what the Bitcoin’s (BTC) price will be in few years, some predict where will the market go.
And Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong predicted that the number of people in the cryptocurrency ecosystem will reach an impressive 1 billion in the next five years.
Since we are at “only” 40 million people currently – Armstrong is expecting a huge increase in overall adoption.
During his interview with the TechCrunch, Armstrong attributed the substantial growth to commercial entities which develop their own tokens. He explained:
“It makes sense that any company out there who has a cap table should have their own token. Every open source project, every charity, potentially every fund or these new types of decentralized organizations [and] apps, they’re all going to have their own tokens.”
He also expressed his views about the evolution of the web:
“Web 1.0 was about publishing information, web 2.0 was about interaction and web 3.0 is going to be about value transfer on the internet because now the web has this native currency and so applications can be built that instantly tap into this global economy on the internet,”
The most crucial element of successfully moving to web 3.0 is regulation. At this moment there are still many places around the world, where no legal crypto-framework is available. With proper regulation, followed by the influx of institutional money – a billion global users doesn’t sound far-fetched.
